Earth
is the third closest planet to the Sun
which is about 93 million miles away.
About 70% of Earth's surface is covered
with water, and 97% of all that water
is in the salty oceans. Only 3% of Earth's
water is freshwater, the water we drink.
What
does the atmosphere?
The atmosphere
gives us air to breathe.
If too much heat is trapped in Earth's
atmosphere, surface temperatures will
rise. This is called the greenhouse
effect and it's what makes Venus so
hot.
Some of the oxygen in Earth's atmosphere
has changed over time to form ozone.
Does the earth
orbits around the Sun ?
Yes, it takes
one year to go around the Sun one complete
time. The Earth also rotates, or spins,
on its axis. It takes one day to spin
around one complete time.
What is the
ozone ?
Ozone is a highly
corrosive and poisonous substance.
It has a sharp, pungent odour. It's
present in low concentrations throughout
the Earth's atmosphere.
The corrosive nature of ozone can damage
plants and trees. High levels of ozone
can destroy agricultural crops and forest
vegetation.
How can we
decrease onzone pollution ?
There are several
ways you can help to decrease ozone
pollution:
* Limit using
your automobile during afternoon and
early evening hours in the late spring,
summer and early fall.
* Do not use gasoline-powered lawn equipment
during these times.
* Don't burn leaves, branches, or lawn
trimmings; compost them
* Tightly seal all containers of household
cleaners, workshop chemicals and solvents,
and garden chemicals
* Plant trees!

Earth with
numbers :
* It takes only
24 hours (1 day) for Earth to spin on
its axis one time.
* Earth's average surface temperature
is 45°F.
* Earth goes around the sun in 365 and
1/4 days |
